We are looking for passionate, curious, solutions-oriented folks to join the team directing our organization

Local Food Matters (LFM) is looking for new board members!

We are a passionate group of people taking proactive steps to build a resilient food system in Golden. The activities are inspiring and empowering, deeply collaborative and making change at both a grass-roots and systems level. If you feel inspired to be a part of the team that oversees the programs and activities of Local Food Matters we would love to hear from you!

LFM Board members should plan on attending monthly board meetings as well as other project or event planning meetings as needed and interested. The expectation is for a 1 year commitment, with the hope for a 3 year term.

Some of the qualities we’re looking for in our Board members include:

  1. A friendly and collaborative approach. Willingness to listen, learn and pitch in.

  2. An understanding of and interest in local food security.

  3. Connections with other Golden organizations.

  4. Experience as part of a Board of Directors for a non-profit organization. Specific skills that we are seeking are:

    1. Governance experience or experience with other non-profit organizations

    2. Financial Management experience

    3. Administrative and organizational skills

    4. Volunteer Management experience and skills

What is LFM currently up to?

LFM is in a time of tremendous growth and momentum. We now have an executive director, a number of part-time contractors, as well as volunteers, working on various initiatives.

In summary, over the last year we have amalgamated with the Golden Farmers’ Market, and are now the proud operators of this beautiful market. We have launched the Growers’ Collective, to help incubate new producers, and the Glean Golden project, to make unharvested fruit accessible. We are undertaking significant investments to strengthen our internal administrative capacity with the aim to have ongoing core funding, staff, and the capacity to manage significant investments in the coming year(s), including critical food infrastructure such as a Food Hub. We are embarking on the creation of a Food Security Strategy for our community to chart the course of the work we will be undertaking. We collaborate closely with the Golden Food Bank and other community organizations, as well as supporting a potential composting programming in town.

Process for applying to become a Board member:

  1. Complete the Board of Directors Questionnaire

  2. A current Board member or our Executive Director will reach out to have a short phone conversation

  3. Prospective Board members will be invited to attend one of our monthly board meetings to meet the rest of the team
