Position Overview
Permanent position at 25-30 hours/wk with an August start.
Compensation: $40-$50/h commensurate with experience.

The Executive Director will guide the implementation of LFM's 2026–2028 Strategic Plan, ensure effective organizational operations, and continue to position Local Food Matters as a catalyst for a thriving and resilient local food system in Golden and Area A.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will oversee and manage general operations of the organization, work across sectors to strengthen local food production, build critical food system infrastructure, improve food access, advance food security policy, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization.
Success in this role will be measured by the Executive Director's ability to ensure smooth operations, convene partners, mobilize resources, advance priority initiatives, and strengthen Local Food Matters' role as a trusted backbone organization and catalyst for collective action.

Strategic Management Areas
1. Organizational Operations
Goal: Ensure Local Food Matters has the capacity, resources, and governance systems required to achieve long-term impact.
The Executive Director Will:
Oversee operations of the Golden Farmers Market and all other LFM programs
Recruit, supervise, and support staff and contractors necessary to support execution
Lead implementation of the strategic plan
Develop and manage annual budgets
Secure grants, sponsorships, donations, and earned revenue opportunities.
Advance a multi-year financial sustainability plan
Strengthen administrative, governance, HR, and evaluation systems.
Work closely with the Board of Directors on governance, planning, and succession
Build organizational knowledge and systems that support continuity and long-term success
2. Food System Infrastructure & Innovation
Goal: Advance priority food system infrastructure and initiatives that strengthen local food access, producer viability, and community resilience.
The Executive Director Will:
Advance local food aggregation, coordination, and distribution systems.
Build partnerships that improve connections between producers, retailers, restaurants, institutions, and consumers.
Secure funding and investment for food system infrastructure projects.
Explore and advance solutions related to:
Storage infrastructure
Season extension
Processing capacity
Transportation and distribution
Community farm development
Develop business plans and implementation plans for major initiatives.
3. Producer & Agricultural Sector Development
Goal: Strengthen local producer capacity and support the long-term viability of agriculture within the region.
The Executive Director Will:
Maintain strong relationships with local producers.
Support expansion of existing agricultural operations.
Facilitate opportunities for new and emerging producers.
Improve access to:
Markets
Infrastructure
Shared labour
Funding opportunities
Strengthen regional food supply relationships and partnerships.
Support initiatives that remove barriers to agricultural production.
Advocate for policies that support long-term agricultural viability.
4. Community Food Security & Public Engagement
Goal: Increase equitable access to local food while strengthening community understanding of the local food system.
The Executive Director Will:
Ensure equity, accessibility, and inclusion are embedded across all initiatives.
Strengthen partnerships that improve access to local food for households facing barriers.
Develop and support school food initiatives and institutional local food procurement.
Build awareness of the role local food plays in community wellbeing and resilience.
Lead storytelling, communications, and community engagement efforts.
Cultivate relationships with Indigenous and community partners.
Support educational initiatives that increase food literacy and community participation.
5. Policy, Partnerships & Systems Change
Goal: Advance food security policy, strengthen regional collaboration, and position Local Food Matters as a trusted implementation partner.
